Lana's Deer Hunt

Lana dropped the hammer on opening day!  While watching a group of does file into an open sage flat, my nephew, Tyler Berry, spotted this rutting buck and Lana's stalk was on. With only 30-40 minutes of daylight left, Lana closed the distance and connected with the buck from approximately 170 yards.  Tyler and I watched the entire hunt!
This rugged and desolate country is full of historical landmarks and lowland beauty.   I have hunted deer and elk within this unit on a few occasions and I cannot wait to go back each time. Enjoy the pictures!
Charles and Jet getting the dutch oven coals ready...

The following pictures demonstrate Charles' skilled dutch oven cooking that we have grown accustomed to. Charles has a variety of ovens that he uses to make items such as biscuites, cornbread, peach cobbler, chile, cowboy breakfast casseroles, pot pie, chile, etc. Dutch ovens are thick-walled cooking pots with a tight-fitting lid and they have been around for hundreds of years. For whatever reason, the taste of the dutch-oven food around camp is always good. Enjoy the pictures!

Charles regulates and maintains the dutch oven temperature by paying close attention to the number of coals on top/bottom...
