Josh Beeler Oklahoma Buck

Although Josh Beeler is a great PHS student, he is guilty of skipping school every now and then to hunt/fish and I have proof with this picture:)  Josh harvested this buck in SW Oklahoma and I am happy to post this.  Don't you think this buck would make a nice shoulder mount for the Beeler home?

Danielle's Nebraska Whitetail

Pastor Manny's Nebraska Whitetail

Manny Parks, the pastor of Faith Bible Chapel, sent me these pictures from his recent hunt in Nebraska.  Pastor Manny lives in Page, AZ and is a great role model and tremendous advocate for hunting.  Although Manny was pleased with the opportunity to hunt and harvest this buck, he was more excited about the opportunity to bring his daughter, Danielle {pictured above), and good friend, Ron Chapmen along.

With all of the hunting media focused on 'trophy' animals, it is very easy to forget the true value of hunting.  That is, developing camaraderie and sharing outdoor experiences with youth, family members, and friends. Although each member of Pastor Manny's hunting party harvested a buck, it was clear that Manny was more excited about the companionship and opportunity to share this outdoor experience with his young daughter and family friend.  What a great way to spend time together and pass on this awesome pastime!  Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Cole Hyson Buck

Cole Hyson from Durango, CO sent me this picture today. Cole is an ol baseball buddy of mine and an avid hunter who has taken several nice animals.  Cole and I competed against each other during high school, but we ended up playing for the same Houston Astros organization years later.

Cole owns Colorado Trading Company aka 'Cole'belas in Durango Colorado. Congratulations and thanks for sharing Cole!

Dead Ram

This ram attempted to run through one of the chain link fences down at the Brownlee Power Plant. Unfortunately, the ram got a little hung up and didn’t make it.. This happened on November 3rd at Brownlee and the IDFG were notified.

Extreme Fishing

Kyran Keisling, our HS photo teacher, sent me a few pictures of his 'Extreme Fishing' adventures from this past weekend. These crazy guys (Kyran, Jacob, Matt) actually repelled down the Marble Canyon cliff wall to access an 'untouchable stretch of water' on the Colorado River. Kyran said the fishing was pretty good and the adventure was great, but Jacob's petrified whimpering was priceless!  Thanks for the pictures guys.
By the way, Kyran runs a great fishing guide service called "This and That Guide Service" at http://www.fishingpowell.com/

Vermillion Ram Skull

Paul Worthen, our HS Spanish teacher, sent this picture to me yesterday. Paul  came across this unique find this past weekend. This ram was probably 10-11 years old and would probably score around 160-165. This is a pretty nice ram for this part of the state.

By the way, Paul is an outstanding hiker that knows this entire region very well.

We took my dad fishing and we found a huge school of stripers in Last Chance Canyon. I was so busy baiting hooks and taking fish off of the hooks, I really never got a chance to fish!

Lots of Stripers

50 anchovies = 50 fish

Lone Mesa State Park....my dad and I just got back from his Colorado rifle elk hunt North of Dolores, CO. My dad made a tremendous shot across a canyon and momentarily dropped the bull in it's tracks. Then the bull began sliding down the steep hillside. The bull slid/rolled half way down the canyon wall before hanging up on an Aspen tree! Although Joel White was a great help, it took us all day to pack the elk out.

My dad set up a great hunting camp and we enjoyed the beautiful country with our two horses, Cameron and Power. This was our second hunt in the park and we have enjoyed our time chasing these awesome animals.

For the past few years, our good friends from CO come to L. Powell for a houseboat trip on Labor Day Weekend. This year, we chased striper boils in the morning before towing kids around for the rest of the day.

Jacob cleaned corrals all summer and saved his money for a new wake board and rope. Jacob is quite an athlete and had no problem riding the wake on his first try. Jacob is eight year's old and loves to fish, wakeboard, skii, surf, etc.

Northern AZ Buffalo Hunt....after my son and I tracked a group of buffalo for 3.5 hourse in the July heat, I harvested this buffalo on opening morning of the hunt. That is when the work began! I am glad I took my son and I am sure this is a hunt he will not soon forget. However, I learned a valuable lesson and I would strongly suggest bringing solid help and/or horses if you draw this tag. This was my first buffalo hunt and I was very impressed with the durability and size of these animals.

Gila Monster

Considering I missed the opening day of archery season to to a schedule/calendar error, I ended up arrowing a pretty nice bull on the third day of my hunt. The weather was hot, but the bulls were active and I cannot wait for my next trip to the Gila.

While approaching our calls, this bull walked right by a bear on his final approach to our calls. I arrowed this bull at 15 yards.
