Coues Whitetail Hunt....Sonora, Mexico

 Jacob and I just returned from our annual Coues Whitetail hunt with Todd George and I thought I would share a few pictures.  Although the hunting was a bit slow, we had a great time and found a respectable 108" buck bedded on a high ridge on the third day of the hunt. Jacob had a great time flinging arrows at pigs and he is already talking about returning next year.

 After our evening hunt, we build a nice Mesquite fire and use the coals to cook our steaks, etc....

 Todd George, a fire chief from Flagstaff, AZ, has a tremendous gift in finding hidden bucks in the Sonoran landscape and it was awesome to watch this guy in action.

Southwest Colorado Deer Hunt

 Here are a few pictures from my November Mule Deer hunt in SW Colorado.  I had an opportunity to cover some great open country with my dad, Bruce Berry, and ten-year old son, Jacob Berry. Although this unit holds some true giants, I was happy to take this respectable buck on the last day of my hunt. My dad and brother set up a great camp and this is a hunt that I will not soon forget. Thanks guys!

Jeff Walker's NV Mule Deer

Jeff Walker was very fortunate to draw two quality hunts this year, and, although I am still waiting on his AZ antelope pictures, I thought I would share a few pictures of his respectable mule deer buck.  It sounds like Jeff abused his poor-ol dad and made him pack out the entire deer from a deep wilderness area. Jeff is the oldest son of PUSD Superintendent, Jim Walker.

Ryan Tkalcevic's 12A West Buck

Check out this heavy-horned muley Ryan harvested during the early hunt!  The Tkalcevics seem to be very savvy deer hunters and have taken two nice bucks in the same area in consecutive years. You can scroll back and check out the November 2010 buck John Tkalcevic killed.

Northern AZ Archery Hunt

 I had an opportunity to reconnect with some old CO friends on my latest archery hunt in Northern AZ.  Steve Chappell from www.chappellguideservice.com along with Tim Stanley and brother-in-law, Vic Duran, were awesome to be around. Steve has a tremendous gift in locating bulls and calling them into close range and it was amazing to watch this guy in action. Although we were greeted with tremendous rain storms, fires, and extremely difficult travel conditions, we were able to connect with this bull on the seventh day of the hunt and you will be able to experience this entire season in High Definition when Extreme Bulls 7 is released.     .  

Northwest Nevada Antelope Hunt

 My dad and I drove 14 hours to NW Nevada for an antelope hunt this past week. It was fun to discover the hidden treasures within this vast and rugged landscape. This part of Nevada is very remote and we ended up staying in Cedarville, CA, the closest civilized town that had a gas station, etc. The huge valleys and vistas surrounding the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge was beautiful and something I will not soon forget.

 The Sheldon refuge protects over 900 square miles of wildlife habitat in the NW corner of the state and is home to pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, huge muleys, and many other forms of wildlife. This refuge is the heart of the high desert and a place few people visit.

 The remains of old homesteads and ranches were scattered throughout the valleys and a good reminder of the hearty pioneers that came before us.

 Free roaming horses frequent refuge waterholes and are a tremendous impact on the range and environment. These horses are at the heart of controversy within this region since they compete with native wildlife for water and food.

 An unfortunate sparrow flew into my mirrow and remained straddled around my mirror through Utah and Nevada...

 Bruce found some cool rocks on the trip from Gran...these rocks (forgot the name) resembled glass and were used to make arrow heads, etc during primitive times.

 Around the turn of the 20th century, pronghorn (antelope) populations were dwindling in North America. Conservation efforts, such as the establishment of refuges, have helped them rebound. Large numbers of pronghorn gather around the perimeter of the refuge in late summer and fall. Although this goat had no clue I was around, these animals rely on keen eyesight and remarkable speed for safety.
